'Completely different player' - Liverpool fans react as Takumi Minamino dazzles against Osasuna

Liverpool unveiled their latest secret weapon against Osasuna on Monday night, as Jurgen Klopp’s squad took shape.

Following a standout display from Harvey Elliott the day before, Takumi Minamino produced a performance that would have really impressed the Reds boss.

The Japanese international returned from his loan spell at Southampton this summer, having shown his quality in flashes at St. Mary’s.

However, he showcased the full range of his ability for 70 minutes in front of the Anfield crowd, before making way for Jordan Henderson.

Making constant runs in behind the Spanish defence, the 26-year-old winger had a one-on-one shot saved by Juan Perez, before latching on to Fabinho’s pinpoint pass to give Liverpool the lead in the 15th minute.

Not content with getting his third goal in as many games, he wrapped in a beautifully-timed cross for Roberto Firmino to volley home his second of the match, just before half-time.

Having yet to make a huge impact since arriving from Red Bull Salzburg in January 2020, supporters reacted to Minamino’s positive influence on the side.

Involved in all three of the Reds’ goals before the break, Minamino also combined well with a revitalised Kostas Tsimikas down the left flank, as the Greek full-back provided the perfect cross for Firmino to put Liverpool two ahead.

It bodes well for Minamino, ahead of the new season, that he started against Osasuna with Divock Origi beginning on the bench and the absent Xherdan Shaqiri receiving an approach from Lyon.

Throughout a stellar pre-season, the winger has demonstrated the attributes that prompted the club to sign him in their title-winning campaign.

Jurgen Klopp has showcased the true depth of quality that lies within his Liverpool squad over the last two days.

Producing the type of performances that Minamino did against Osasuna, the Reds’ squad players are proving that the new season could be a positive one for Liverpool.
