'Complete greed and overkill': Michael Vaughan slams scheduling of India-Australia T20I series straight after World Cup

NEW DELHI: With India and Australia set to face in the World Cup final in Ahmedabad on Sunday and then lock horns in a five-match T20I series just 4 days after the mega tournament, former England skipper Michael Vaughan on Friday slammed the scheduling of the T20I series.

After the World Cup Final on November 19, the T20I series commences from November 23 and Vaughan sided with the players, saying that they should be given rest and time to enjoy their success of the World Cup.

"It doesn’t right with me that the 2 finalists 4 days later will start a T20 series against each other .. why can’t we allow players the chance to have a moments rest after a WC or whoever wins the chance to celebrate properly for a couple of weeks .. It’s complete greed and over kill," Vaughan wrote on X (formally Twitter).

India go into the World Cup final unbeaten and 10 wins in a row whereas 5-time champions Australia suffered a couple of defeats in the group stage of the tournament.

While India crushed New Zealand by 70 runs in the first semi-final, the Aussies beat South Africa by three wickets to make their 8th World Cup final.

The 5 T20I between India and Australia will be played in Visakhapatnam, Thiruvananthapuram, Guwahati, Nagpur and Hyderabad and will run from November 23 to December 3.
