Build a Zoo is a tycoon experience on Roblox where you can collect tons of different animals and place them in your zoo to earn gold. You’ll then use that gold to upgrade your zoo and try to get bigger, better, and cuter animals. If you’ve played through the rather lazy tutorial and still have questions about the game, this Build a Zoo beginner’s guide will answer all of them. So, let’s get right into it!
How to Unlock More Space in Build a Zoo
When you launch Build a Zoo and spawn on your zoo/plot of land, you’ll see a conveyor belt at the end moving eggs from left to right. Go to that belt, buy a $100 egg, bring it back to the front of your zoo, and place it on down. The egg will soon hatch, and you’ll get your first animal and start earning some money.
Now, repeat the loop multiple times and get as many animals as you can.
However, soon you’ll run out of space and will have to buy more tiles so you can hatch more eggs and get more animals. For that, you’ll need money and the hammer tool. Press 1 or click on the hammer tool from the tray at the bottom of the screen to equip the hammer tool. Then, go over the tile you want to unlock and press E.

Tiles at the front will cost between $500-$75,000, while the last line costs $10,000,000 for each tile. Once you have unlocked all tiles in your zoo, there is no way for further expansion yet. That means, eventually, you will have to sell your old animals if you want to get new ones.
Buying new tiles is essential if you want to get bigger animals in Build a Zoo. If you don’t buy more tiles, you’ll not get bigger animals, even if you buy high-rarity and high-luck eggs.
How to Get Big Animals in Build a Zoo
Apart from the normal animals that you get by hatching eggs in Build a Zoo, there are three platforms in three corners of your zoo where you can show off your huge animals to make some extra gold. These include two pets and one fish.

You can unlock one pet platform for $30,000 Gold and the other one for 299 Robux. The big fish platform costs $50,000 and can only be accessed after you unlock the fishing point.
Once you have unlocked the big animals platform, you will also unlock the Food Shop. Use the new Food button at the top of your screen to quickly teleport to the Food Shop. Buy food from the shop using Gold to feed your big animals.
Feeding them will increase their size to maximum and also unlock new big animals that you can show off. All pets and fish in the album will unlock as big animals one after the other. You just have to feed them the different items available at the Food Shop.
How to Unlock Fishing Point in Build a Zoo

With Update 21, Build a Zoo introduced the Fishing Point. Go past the conveyor belt at the end of your zoo and unlock the fishing point for $5,000 Gold. As you unlock the fishing point, you will receive a basic fishing rod. Talk to the capybara standing in front of a hut to purchase some bait, and then go to the river to start fishing.
Equip the rod and click on the screen or tap the fishing button to cast a line. When an egg gets hooked, a bar will appear on top of the screen. Click repeatedly until the bar gets 100% filled and get the egg. Place the egg in a pond and wait for the timer to hit zero to hatch the egg.
Just like the zoo, you’ll have to purchase more ponds using Gold if you want to showcase all your fish at once. The fishing ponds are slightly more costly than the zoo tiles, so you should avoid the fishing point expansion early on in the game.
How to Get Better Eggs in Build a Zoo
There are two types of eggs in Build a Zoo: pet eggs and fish eggs. Pet eggs are purchased from the conveyor belt, and fish eggs must be obtained by fishing. If you want better pets and fish, you have to get better eggs. Here’s how to do the:
- To get better pet eggs, upgrade your conveyor belt. If you go to the left corner of your zoo, you’ll see a yellow button on the floor. Stand over it to access the Conveyor menu. You’ll see a list of all the conveyor upgrades, from Common to Celestial. High-rarity conveyor spawns high-rarity eggs that hatch into the best animals in Build a Zoo.

- To catch better fish eggs, you need to get the best fishing rod and bait. Talk to the capybara at the fishing point to see all available baits. Right across from the capybara is the rod shop. Fish Bait is the best bait in Build a Zoo. The Gold Rod is the best rod in the game, but you need Robux to obtain it. Uncommon Rod is the best free-to-play rod that can be obtained from the Season Pass spin.
How to Get Mutations on Animals in Build a Zoo
Mutated pets and fish in Build a Zoo have a distinct appearance and earn up to 12x more than their base variant. You can get mutated pets and fish from eggs. To mutate your big pet and big fish, you must feed them certain food items.

Build a Zoo Tips & Strategies for Beginners
Now that you know how to do everything in Build a Zoo, here are a few things to prioritize if you want to get rich quickly in Build a Zoo and get past the early-game grind as soon as possible.
- Upgrade your conveyor belt as soon as possible. A better conveyor belt will not only spawn better eggs but also provide a passive gold earnings boost. Unlock and equip the Epic conveyor as soon as you can. You’ll need a total of $1,500,000 to get the Epic conveyor.
- AFK-ing rewards more money than going offline. In Build a Zoo, your animals will earn more cash if you go AFK but stay in the game instead of going offline.
- Avoid going after mutated eggs early on. Mutated eggs cost a lot more than their base variants, and you won’t always get the best returns. So, early on, avoid buying mutated eggs. Once you’ve farmed enough money, do not miss the Diamond mutated eggs. Gold eggs are good too early on.
