An investigation has been launched into the way fashion retailer Country Road dealt with harassment complaints within the company.

South African parent company Woolworths Holdings Limited has ordered an independent probe into the brand, with findings expected to be released in June.

In a statement, Country Road Group said it had a zero-tolerance policy for harassment complaints, including sexual harassment, which it took very seriously.

A spokesperson said the investigation was sparked by team members who gave feedback about how their complaints were handled and warned against speculation of the outcome before it was finalised.

"It is critically important to us that our workplace is one where all team members feel safe, valued and included," the company said in its statement.

"We sincerely thank team members for speaking up and raising their concerns."
