Complaints after rainbow-coloured Edinburgh Dungeons advert says they were 'forced' to support Pride

The folks over at Edinburgh Dungeons have made a bit of a marketing blunder with their latest advertisement.

The ad in question appeared in an official Pride guide, with The Edinburgh Dungeons' logo re-branded in the colours of the rainbow flag.

The ad reads: " Proud Forced to support Edinburgh Pride and LGBT Youth Scotland".

It is written ironically, with the word "proud" clearly scored out and replaced by "forced".

However the tongue in cheek humour that is a trademark of the dungeons missed the mark this time for some people, who say they found the advert offensive.

One Edinburgh Live reader said: "Just found this post from an Edinburgh Pride Guide. Kind of offensive from the dungeons. Never normally complain. But..."

However, since the popular tourist attraction were the official supporter of the LGBT Youth Scotland Youth Stage at this year's event, it seems likely that this was just marketing gone wrong.

A spokesperson for Edinburgh Dungeons said: "If our advert in the official Pride Guide has caused offence, we apologise. At times, the tone we use in all of our advertising and marketing is tongue-in-cheek in style which is fitting with our attraction and brand.

"We are very proud to support our LGBTQ+ colleagues throughout the entire year and operate a fully inclusive attraction, which includes working alongside the organisers of Edinburgh Pride."
