Competition: predict the South Carolina primary result

It's down to the wire in South Carolina – and it's all over bar the vote counting in the Republican primary. But who will win? Here's your chance to pick the order in which the four major candidates finish – and win a very special prize.

In the comments section below, simply list from one to four the order in which you think the following candidates will finish: Newt Gingrich, Ron Paul, Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum.

As a tie-breaker, include the winning candidate's share of the vote in percentage points. So if you think Ron Paul will win, include the vote share you think he will receive when all the votes have been counted: for example 35%.

The deadline for entries is 7pm ET on Saturday, 21 January when polls close in South Carolina.

The entry that most accurately picks the finishing order and comes closest to the winning margin will be judged to be the winner. In the event of a tie we'll think of something.

To enter you will have to be logged onto the Guardian's website. Multiple entries are not allowed – only a user's last entry will be counted.

Did I mention the prizes? It's the most excellent prize of all: a genuine Ron Paul rally sign – signed by Ron Paul himself. And a "Ron Paul 2012" beanie hat (not signed by Ron Paul).

But the hard part is: who is going to win? Here's some background to help from Cif America analyst Harry Enten – and here's some forecasts:

• The RealClearPolitics polling average has Newt Gingrich on 32%, Mitt Romney on 30%, Ron Paul on 13% and Rick Santorum on 11%

• The Huffington Post's Mark Blumenthal has Gingrich on 34%, Romney 29%, Paul 14% and Santorum 8%

• The New York Times's 538 blog has Gingrich on 36%, Romney on 32%, Paul on 16%, and Santorum on 13%

To kick things off here is my go at picking South Carolina's winners and losers:

1. Newt Gingrich
2. Mitt Romney
3. Ron Paul
4. Rick Santorum
Tiebreak - Gingrich's winning vote share: 39%
