Compensation details on 1-year deal between Panthers, Justin Houston

The early numbers between the Carolina Panthers and outside linebacker Justin Houston are in.

ESPN senior NFL insider Adam Schefter, who initially broke the news of the pact earlier tonight, has now pushed through a compensation update. Houston’s one-year agreement will be worth up to $7 million with $6 million guaranteed.

So, what does that tell us? Well, get ready to see him atop the depth chart alongside fellow Pro Bowl pass rusher Brian Burns.

That value, which is a decent chunk of change for a 34-year-old, indicates Houston will likely be starting off the edge for Carolina in 2023. Plus, the fact that approximately 85 percent of it is guaranteed probably just drives home the intention.

Oh, and the Panthers got themselves a pretty good deal as well.

Yannick Ngakoue, who racked up the same amount of sacks as Houston in 2022, was able to get $10.5 million from the Chicago Bears for the upcoming campaign. And although there’s a six-year difference between the two, the $3.5 million difference is also one of note.

Not bad, Fitty. Not bad at all.
