Every Patrick Mahomes pass Sunday will remind Bears fans whom their favorite team passed on.
But the Chiefs star isn’t the only quarterback drafted since theBears’ Mitch Trubisky who would be considered an upgrade. Here’s a look at the starting quarterbacks the Bears passed on to take Trubisky in the 2017 draft, as well as the ones selected in the two years since, and how they compare:
2017 draft
Pick 2
Mitch Trubisky — Bears
2019 stats: 282-for-445 for 2,774 yards, 17 TDs, 10 INTs, 84.2 passer rating.
Record as starter: 7-6.
Trubisky has run for 172 yards this season and is on pace to finish with less than half of last year’s total of 421. He did not make the leap -expected of him in Year 2 of his -pairing with coach Matt Nagy.
Pick 10
Patrick Mahomes — Chiefs
2019 stats: 280-for-426 for 3,606 yards, 23 TDs, four INTs, 106.2 passer rating.
Record as starter: 9-3.
The rocket-armed Mahomes won the MVP award and threw a league-best 50 touchdown passes last year — despite making just one start in 2017. He has proved to be super-human this season, missing only three games with a -dislocated kneecap.
Pick 12
Deshaun Watson — Texans
2019 stats: 314-for-463 for 3,668 yards, 26 TDs, 11 INTs, 100.4 passer rating.
Record as starter: 9-5.
Watson has run 75 times for 376 yards and seven touchdowns this season— and even caught a six-yard score. He owns the best passing performance this season: Oct. 6 against the Falcons, he went 28-for-33for 426 yards, five touchdowns and a perfect 158.3 passer rating.
2018 draft
Pick 1
Baker Mayfield — Browns
2019 stats: 285-for-474 for 3,356 yards, 17 TDs, 17 INTs, 78.7 passer rating.
Record as starter: 6-8.
This has been a worst-case-scenario season for the dysfunctional and over-exposed Browns. The brash Mayfield has posted passer ratings of38.9 and 13.4 this season — but at least those Progressive commercials are clever.
Pick 3
Sam Darnold — Jets
2019 stats: 234-for-379 for 2,642 yards, 17 TDs, 12 INTs, 84.3 passer rating.
Record as starter: 5-6.
What started as a disaster — Darnold got mononucleosis and later said during a game that he was “seeing ghosts” at the line of scrimmage —is trending upward. He has won four of his last six games.
Pick 7
Josh Allen — Bills
2019 stats: 255-for-430 for 2,876 yards, 18 TDs, nine INTs, 84.6 passer rating.
Record as starter: 10-4.
Drafted because of his giant arm, Allen has become a rushing weapon, gaining 467 yards on 102 carries with nine touchdowns, the most TDs of any quarterback. Behind a killer defense, he’s playoff-bound. Sound familiar?
Pick 32
Lamar Jackson — Ravens
2019 stats: 245-for-370 for 2,889 yards, 33 TDs, eight INTs, 112.8passer rating.
Record as starter: 12-2.
Jackson is nothing short of revolutionary. He might be the best running back in the NFL, carrying 159 times for 1,103 yards and a league-high 6.9 yards per attempt. He’s likely headed for the MVP award and his team for home-field advantage throughout the playoffs.
2019 draft
Pick 1
Kyler Murray — Cardinals
2019 stats: 312-for-482 for 3,279 yards, 17 TDs, 10 INTs, 87.5 passer rating.
Record as starter: 4-9-1.
The reigning Heisman Trophy winner is trying to prove that Kliff Kingsbury’s offense can work in the pros. He’s succeeding.
Pick 6
Daniel Jones — Giants
2019 stats: 228-for-370 for 2,374 yards, 18 TDs, 11 INTs, 84 passer rating.
Record as starter: 2-8.
It took Jones two weeks to take Eli Manning’s starting job. He has had two four-touchdown games since, though Manning returned when Jones hurt his ankle.
Pick 15
Dwayne Haskins — Redskins
2019 stats: 107-for-188 for 1,232 yards, five TDs, seven INTs, 70.2passer rating.
Record as starter: 2-4.
The former Ohio State star is playing for an interim coach and the most dysfunctional franchise in the NFL.
Pick 42
Drew Lock — Broncos
2019 stats: 58-for-95 for 651 yards, five TDs, three INTs, 85.9 passer rating.
Record as starter: 2-1.
After coming off injured reserve, the Missouri alum has given the quarterback-needy Broncos a spark in the last month.
Pick 178
Gardner Minshew — Jaguars
2019 stats: 245-for-400 for 2,795 yards, 17 TDs, five INTs, 91.2 passer rating.
Record as starter: 5-5.
“Minshew Mania” raged in the first half of the season and returned when the mustachioed rookie claimed the job back from Nick Foles three weeks ago.
