A retailer which specialises in redistributing surplus food and household products is launching its second store in the West Midlands.
Company Shop has agreed a deal to open the new store in Birmingham, following on from the launch of its outlet in Dudley in March.
It has taken over a former Somerfield store in South Yardley where 40 new jobs are due to be created when the shop opens later this year.
Company Shop sells low-cost food and products which are on average 50 per cent off the normal retail price.
It stocks items which have been deemed surplus by other supermarkets and brands for reasons such as seasonal packaging, overstock or incorrect labelling and aims to ensure less ends up in the bin or landfill.
It operates a membership model and will be open to those working in the NHS, social care, emergency services and other specific sectors.
Retail and people director Beki Pratt said: "Following the popularity of our recently opened store in Dudley, we are really excited to be bringing our second Company Shop to the West Midlands.
"The new store will see us regenerate a former retail site, create local jobs for local people and prevent good food and products from needlessly going to waste, all while helping to stretch family budgets further by providing members with some brilliant bargains from top name brands."
