A green start-up company is giving away phone charging gear to NHS staff so they can stay in touch with their families during long shifts.
Lifesaver, which was founded by Newcastle University graduate Archie Wilkinson, produces portable charging packs for businesses and events which are loaded with 100% renewable energy at the firm's HQ.
So far, the company has donated almost 1,000 of the devices to hospitals and they are now looking to do the same for North East health workers.
The 'Lifeline To The Frontline' campaign is being supported by Octopus Energy for Business.
Mr Wilkinson, co-founder and CEO of Lifesaver, said: “People need power on the go. Frontline workers are under new pressures and need our support to stay powered & connected.
"We have launched Lifeline To The Frontline as a way to bring partners across the world to play a small part in helping these doctors and nurses stay connected with patients, family and loved ones.”
Designed originally to stop commuters, office workers and festival goers running out of smartphone power, a Lifesaver power-bank has a capacity of 5000mAh, which will charge most phone models of average size to two full charges.
The company has roped in a striking endorsement for their campaign too: former US Astronaut Scott Kelly.
He said: “We all need to support the frontline nurses and hospital staff in any way we can. Keeping phones charged for nurses and patients so they may remain in contact with loved ones is vital to the wellbeing of all affected by this terrible situation.
