Company donates 100 pet-friendly Christmas dinners to rescue dogs

A cleaning company has donated 100 Christmas dinners to Manchester and Cheshire Dogs Home in a charitable gesture to highlight the hard work that the rescue centre undertakes.

The festive period is often the busiest time of the year for many animal shelters, and with more than 3.2 million pets bought by UK households during lockdown, this year has seen services especially overstretched.

Some dog owners are finding that their new pet is more of a commitment to look after than they had anticipated.

As a result, more than five percent of those who had bought a pet during the pandemic have already given it up, according to research by the Pet Food Manufacturers Association.

Dr. Beckmann-the manufacturer of the best-selling Pet Stain and Odour Remover- has committed to helping shed light on overlooked dogs, and has launched a Christmas campaign to bring some festive cheer to dogs at Manchester and Cheshire Dogs’ home.

The famous cleaning brand has temporarily re-branded from Dr. Beckmann to Dr. Petmann and have partnered with the rescue centre to deliver 100 specially produced portions of premium doggy Christmas dinners to the residents.

Dr. Beckmann spokesperson, Susan Fermor, said: “We are committed to doing what we can to help Britain’s dogs.

“We already have a great working relationship with Manchester and Cheshire Dogs Home and have partnered with them before to help make life a little easier for the dogs and the home.

“When we saw the figures showing that lockdown has caused a deluge of abandoned dogs since the easing of restrictions, we had to act. So, we’ve worked to design and produce a special Christmas dinner of raw turkey food for the lovely dogs at the home. It is the least we could do.

“We’re going to give the dogs there a big Christmas celebration, with toys and decorations, party hats and, of course, the main event - the scrummy Christmas dinner.”

The Christmas dinner, made especially by natural pet food manufacturer Wilsons Pet Food, features raw premium turkey and is great for dog health.

Manager of Manchester and Cheshire Dogs’ Home, Anna Stansfield, said: “Since the pandemic, we’ve been so busy at the dogs’ home. It’s such a shame to see the number of dogs being abandoned at dogs’ homes right across the UK and really want to highlight that dogs are for life not just for Christmas.

“We’ve worked with Dr. Beckmann before and it’s lovely that they’ve come here to give our dogs some Christmas joy with this special Dr Petmann Christmas Dinner and all the trimmings - it will be a special day for all the dogs here, as well as the staff.”
