Companies invest 390 million yen. in Nagoya space travel start-up

Yoshimoto Kogyo Holdings Co., Toyota Tsusho Corp. and individual investors have put a total of about 390 million yen into PD AeroSpace, Ltd., a start-up company in Nagoya that is developing airframes for space travel, the company said Tuesday.

Yoshimoto Kogyo Holdings, an entertainment powerhouse known for its comedians, offered to help fund PD AeroSpace through its 100% subsidiary, and is planning to provide information regarding space travel via streaming that involves entertainers, and through other means. Toyota Tsusho is eyeing to start a new business in the field of spaceship development. The investment was made by the two companies and four individual investors. The financial breakdown is undisclosed.

PD AeroSpace is aiming to put a spaceship into space at an altitude of 100 kilometers in 2022 and a manned flight in 2025. The fund will be used to develop engines, test flights and for the use and preparation of space ports.

ANA Holidngs Inc. and major travel agency H.I.S. Co. also invested in PD AeroSpace.
