Commuters through Maynooth delayed as Irish Rail remove trespasser from busy line

A trespasser on the line and some mechanical faults have led to a number of delays for rail passengers this morning.

Irish Rail has said all services on lines going through Maynooth are twenty minutes behind while an early-morning route from Carlow to Heuston also had to be cancelled.

A mechanical fault was the reason for the 6.30 from Carlow not being able to go ahead with passengers having to wait for a 7.03 train coming from Waterford to pass through.

They said: "06.30 Carlow to Heuston cancelled due to mechanical fault. Customers will be accommodated on 06.00 Waterford to Heuston (departing Carlow 07.03)."

Kildare commuters were also left lagging a little due to the person on the line who has since been removed.

Train bosses have said all services going through Maynooth are operating at a 20 minute delay but it will "start to ease" as the morning progegresses.

They said: "Maynooth line services operating up to 20mins late due to a trespasser on the line, who has now been removed. These delays will start to ease."
