Commuters hit by train disruption can use ebikes instead for free

Rail commuters affected by train disruption are being offered the free use of an ebike to get to work.

Halfords will provide ebikes following the news that rail passengers face cancelled services or reduced timetables due to staff shortages and strikes.

The retailer launched a nationwide ebike trial scheme in October at 293 of its UK stores, giving customers the chance to try an ebike for free for six hours.

Now, the company is pledging to offer any rail commuter with a valid season ticket one of these bikes while the rail disruption is ongoing.

Halfords Cycling Director Paul Tomlinson said: “Millions of commuters will be dreading next week’s return to work, as they are now facing the additional hangover of rail disruption.

"We are offering our trial ebikes to rail commuters during the disruption, available on a first-come, first-served basis. Ebikes are fun, fast, and take the strain out of hills, making them the perfect means of tackling a short commute.”

Commuters can enter their postcode into the Halfords e-bike trial finder, to check whether their local store offers trial ebikes. They must then call or visit the store to check availability and book. A £101 refundable deposit will be taken when the bike is collected.
