Police are urging members of the public not to take the law into their own hands following disturbances sparked by concerns about a sex offender.

Dyfed-Powys Police say are investing incidents of criminal damage and disturbances on a Llanelli street prompted by "community tension about an individual". Officers say the person who seemingly sparked the disorder no longer lives in the area, and they stress "effective processes" are in place to manage the behaviour of registered sex offenders. The incidents being investigated by police centre on Bigyn Road in Llanelli.

A spokeswoman for Dyfed-Powys Police said: "We are investigating several incidents of criminal damage and disturbance at Bigyn Road, Llanelli, which are the result of community tension about an individual who used to reside in the area, and no longer lives there. We recognise the strength of feeling within the local community and are working hard as your local police in carrying out our duty to make sure all members of our community are safe.

"Together with our partners, we have effective processes in place to monitor and manage the behaviour of registered sex offenders through the Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA) process.
