Community spirit in Kinross "alive and kicking" as residents rush to help with food deliveries

Community spirit is "alive and kicking" in Kinross according to one group.

Volunteers at the Kinross Church centre were left overwhelmed with the offers of help that came flooding in after they said they were having difficulty getting meals to vulnerable residents.

The group's minibuses were struggling in the snow, leaving centre manager Nan Cook to ask for help.

And the town stepped up to the plate.

Nan told the Perthshire Advertiser: “We do have minibuses but we have had great difficulty getting out.

“I put a post of social media asking if anyone could help with a 4x4 vehicle.

“So many people came forward, the community spirit is alive and kicking in Kinross.

“The response has been just fantastic. It was difficult but we got there.

“It’s been young and old coming forward. I think people are maybe on furlough and are eager to help.”

The community centre has been delivering meals to 45 pensioners in Kinross and the surrounding area throughout lockdown.

Normally, older residents are able to attend for something to eat and enjoy some activities with friends.

Nan said: "The centre has been open for a long time but we have obviously been shut since March, so we've just adapted the service.

"It's so frustrating. We're hoping to be able to get four people into the centre daily soon, once restrictions allow, just to give them a wee bit of social interaction."
