Community shows support for Airdrie foodbank

Airdrie foodbank volunteers have thanked local businesses and supporters who are helping the charity to provide their vital service during the Covid-19 emergency.

They have received donations and support from firms including British Gas, Tesco, Morrisons and B&M Stores, as well as from North Lanarkshire Council and dozens more community groups and volunteers.

Foodbank manager David Findlay told the Airdrie and Coatbridge Advertiser: “Donations and offers of help from companies and individuals over the past few weeks have ensured that the service can continue during these difficult times.

“As the disastrous effects of the coronavirus pandemic continue to impact on the lives of all of us, I’m continuously overwhelmed by the generosity and kindness of our community.

“The donations from supermarkets, community groups and individuals have been wonderful, and the help given by the staff from British Gas with manpower and transportation has been instrumental in keeping the service going.”

David added: “There’s no doubt that difficult times lie ahead, but I’m confident that with continued support and the hard work of our volunteers, we will continue to provide a much-needed service to the community as best we can.”
