Community shock as police confirm 'obstruction' investigation in motorbike death

People have been speaking of their sadness following a motorbike accident in Hartcliffe which claimed the life of the male rider.

The motorcyclist was travelling along Fulford Road on Friday at 5.45pm when he collided with a parked van.

Police and paramedics were called to the scene but the man was pronounced dead shortly after their arrival.

A suspect was arrested on suspicion of murder yesterday (April 6)  and remains in police custody.

Police are also investigating whether an object could have been obstructing the road at the time.

Uniformed officers are patrolling the area to provide community reassurance.

Detectives from the Major Crime Investigation Team continue to make enquiries among a number of potential witnesses.

People in the local community have spoken about their shock at the incident.

Posting on the Bristol Live Facebook page, Rita Courtney said: "Very sad.

"My prayers go out to this mans family at this time."

Jemma Michelle said: "So so sad.

"I was there seconds after it happened and can't get him out of my head.

"My love and thoughts go to all his family and friends at this sad time."

Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash to come forward.

A police spokesman said: "Anyone who was in Fulford Road at the time or who has any other information can get in touch through www.avonandsomerset.police.uk/contact, or by calling 101, quoting reference 5219074240."

People can also pass on information through the independent charity Crimestoppers 100 per cent anonymously on 0800 555 111 or via their anonymous online form at www.crimestoppers-uk.org.
