Community Shield date confirmed as Liverpool face Man City at Wembley

The FA have confirmed that the 2019 Community Shield meeting between Liverpool and Manchester City will take place on Sunday, August 4.

The season curtain-raiser will be held at its traditional venue of Wembley Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 3pm.

City's place in the competition was secured when they pipped Jurgen Klopp's team to the Premier League title on the final day of the 2018-19 campaign.

The Reds, meanwhile, saw their participation confirmed when Pep Guardiola's men went on to comfortably beat Watford in the FA Cup final, ensuring one place in the showpiece dropped down to the league runners-up.

For Liverpool, the Community Shield represents the first of seven opportunities to lift a trophy next term.

Last weekend's Champions League final victory over Tottenham ensured they will also participate in the Uefa Super Cup and Club World Cup in 2019-20.

Manchester City are out to add a second successive Community Shield success having won the trophy alongside the league, FA Cup and League Cup last season.
