"A huge thank you to the administrators of this page which have given us the permission to post this statement. Thank you once again and God bless you all."

The takeaway will continue to operate but under new management.

Residents took to the comments to express their sadness at the news.

One person said: "Mr Carmine and family, so sorry to hear this news. We will miss you. Wishing you and Francesca and family the best for the future."

A second customer said: "So very sad. Best chipper takeaway in swords. Best of luck with other adventurers."

A third person added: "So sorry to hear this Carmine Mazzola, I'm going to miss my garlic chips.

"Thanks for all you did for the community and all your support for our football teams and our community Facebook page, wishing you and your family all the best in the future."
