Community mourns Bray's 'wee legend' as popular resident bar cat passes away

Tributes have poured in for Bray's "wee legend" as a popular bar announced the passing of their resident cat.

Staff and customers of The Harbour Bar were left devastated as beloved furball, Raoul O'Toole, sadly died last night.

The adorable ginger tabby, who lived for 21 long years, was known fur his friendly nature and brought "love, craic, and joy to the bar".

The bar shared an emotional tribute to Bray's "best-loved character" saying: "Another chapter comes to a close at The Harbour Bar.

"It’s with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our friend, Raoul O’Toole - who passed away in the arms of our wonderful staff member, Cat last night.

"Raoul found us YEARS AGO and little did we know how much we needed him. He brought so much love, craic and joy to the bar and will no doubt leave a big void for both staff and customers on our return.

"Thank you to all who stopped by and gave Raoul your company over the lockdown months, we know he had many a caller (the charmer!)

"Thank you, friend - your 21 years was some feat! We will miss you dearly and hope you and Cinders are having many a shot of milk up there. #RIP"

Hundreds of fans shared their own memories of the adored tomcat.

One person said: "Crying reading this. Raoul was such a character. King of the Harbour bar. He will be a huge loss.

"Can't believe he was 21. RIP you wee legend."

Another person said: "Very sad news. He used to drive our dog mad in the car many years ago when I was collecting my children from Cubs much to our amusement."

A third person said: "Such a fabulous age, gorgeous boy and I'm pretty sure had the most social coolest life a cat could have. The baby has gone happily over the rainbow bridge to now keep a protective eye on you x"

Another fan added: "RIP Raoul. One of Bray's best-loved characters!"
