Community larder to help those through pandemic set to open this weekend

A new community larder to help those in need throughout the coronavirus pandemic will launch in Eaglesham this weekend.

And it is hoped it can be continued after the pandemic to help those who may need access to essentials they otherwise cannot get.

Started by the community worker for Eaglesham and Waterfoot, Freya Young, the larder will come into affect on January 30 and will open from 10.30am till 8.30pm each Saturday.

Freya told the News : “For those needing to access food banks or the Trussell Trust here, they have to make their way over to Barrhead.

“That’s a long way to go for those who are elderly or frail, or those struggling to afford public transport.

“So we are following on from an idea in Neilston and hope the larder can help those in need.”

Aimed at those with mobility issues, who may fall short of Trussell Trust help, and those unable to travel, Freya hopes to improve on the larder as it becomes the norm.

Having been supported by the local church, the larder will sit outside the Carsewell Centre in the village and is for the local and wider community, including anyone in East Renfrewshire or people in East Kilbride within five miles of travel.
