Community 'in shock' after quad bike accident claims life of dad-of-four

A Co Tyrone man who died following a quad bike accident has been named locally as 35-year-old David John Ballantine.

The dad-of-four died at Derry's Altnagelvin Hospital following the incident at Gorticashel Road outside Glenhull near Greencastle shortly before 7.45pm on Sunday.

Sinn Féin MP Órfhlaith Begley said the local community is in shock following the death.

The West Tyrone MP said: "The local community is in shock following the death of a 35-year-old man in a collision involving a quad bike on the Gorticashel Road in Omagh.

"Any death on our roads is one too many.

"My thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who has lost his life at this sad and tragic time."

Police are appealing for information about the collision.

Inspector Sterling said: "Shortly before 7.45pm, it was reported that a quad bike was involved in the collision at the Gorticashel Road. The man was then taken to hospital but sadly died as a result of his injuries.

"Enquiries are continuing and we would appeal to anyone with any information to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 1776 02/08/20."

Mr Ballantine's family has asked for donations to Northern Ireland Air Ambulance in lieu of flowers. His house is to be kept private.
