Community in shock after death of popular young Mayo man

A community is in shock after the death of a hugely popular young Mayo man.

Sean Tobin, from Castlebar, sadly passed away on Wednesday after a battle with illness.

And tributes have been pouring in for Sean, with the local Castlebar Pantomime group hailing him as a "gentle soul".

They wrote on Facebook yesterday: "It is with great sadness and a very heavy heart that we say farewell to one of our own. Mr Sean Tobin. Sean joined panto back in 2004 for Panto at the OK Corral and made a great impression on everyone even at a young age.

"Sean went on to advance his acting skills in other projects, including his involvement in The Tudors TV drama, but he returned to panto in 2015 for our production of Goldilocks and again in 2016 for The 12 Days of Christmas.

"Sean had excellent comedic timing and was a hit with cast, crew and audiences alike.

"We were sorry to hear his illness had returned and had hoped we would see him back on the panto stage again. Alas fate is a cruel mistress and robbed us of that chance.

"Sean will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him and on behalf of everyone in Castlebar Pantomime, we extend our deepest sympathies to his family and friends. May his gentle soul rest in peace."

And locals were left in shock after the news of Sean's death was confirmed.

One wrote: "I can't believe it. I'm so sorry. What a wonderful lovely funny friend. Gutted."

While another added: "Rest in peace my prince Sean.. loved working along side such a funny kind and lovable rogue.. never be forgotten."

And Sean's family have confirmed that he will be laid to rest in a funeral service on Friday.

A post on RIP.ie reads: "Seán Tobin Very deeply regretted by his heartbroken parents Noreen and Roderick, brothers, Colin and Brian. Granny Tobin, Uncles and aunts, cousins and nephew, Freddie, James Murray and all his colleagues at Murray Ambulance Service.

"Rest in Peace.

"Removal from his residence this Friday at 2.00pm for Funeral Mass at 2.30pm in the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar followed by burial afterwards at Castlebar New Cemetery.

"Due to the HSE and Government guidelines the funeral at all stages will be private for family only."
