Community in mourning as young man killed in tragic Mayo crash named locally

The victim of a horror crash in Mayo has been named locally as David Henning.

The young man was killed in the crash on Monday evening, with his tight-knit community still in mourning.

Mr Henning, who lived in Killawalla, died following a head-on collision with a Toyota Auris and a Seat Leon on the N60 in Breaffry.

Henning, who was in his thirties, was a front-seat passenger in one of the cars. He moved to Mayo after having relocated with his family from South Africa a number of years ago.

His family are well-known in the area, and his father, Allan, runs a jewellery business in the village from a property called ‘The Spinney’.

In the same 24-hour period, three men in Tyrone, one man in Wexford, and a cyclist in Dublin all died while travelling on roads over St Stephen’s Day and Monday.

A spokesman told Galway Beo: "Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a fatal road traffic collision on the N60 at Breaffy in Castlebar, Co.Mayo this evening, Monday, 27th December 2021.
