A local youth group in Co Fermanagh is to organise its first ever colour run on Saturday to raise funds for two charities which have supported its members.
Those involved in the Heroes Project, which is run through the Devenish Partnership Forum in Enniskillen, will take part in the run this weekend, with the idea of the event and the chosen charities put forward by group members.
The project is made up of young people from Enniskillen and surrounding areas, some of whom have learning difficulties.
Group coordinator Sean Paul Curry says the young people involved in the Heroes Project are looking forward to the fundraiser, and was delighted to see them take the initiative for the event.
“We were talking to the young people about raising money for charities and they suggested different charities we could run for,” Sean Paul told MyFermanagh
“One of them was Friends of the Cancer Centre as one of the young people had a family member who they were a great help to.
“The other one is Microtia UK - it is a smaller charity but one of the young people in our group suffers from Microtia, which is where one of your ears doesn’t form the right way in the womb, so she needs a hearing aid.
“So these charities are really personal to some of the young people in our project.”
“We were going through a few options and different ideas were thrown about, and we thought we could try and run our own colour run so it just came about from that.
“It’s a fun and interactive idea as well so we thought that was the best thing to do.”
Those involved in the group age between 13 and 15, and it is based around persona; development, good relations and citizenship.
“”We work with young people with and without learning difficulties, some of our young people have ADHD, some are on the autistic spectrum.
“They all work together in the same group, there is a lot of stuff going on here!”
Those wanting to take part in the colour run this Saturday 13 November can get involved by running or walking the 3k route, or by splashing colour on those in the race, which will kick off from the DPF Nature Reserve at 11am.
