Community Enterprise in Scotland appoints new chief executive

Community Enterprise in Scotland (CEIS) has appointed Martin Avila as its new group chief executive.

He will be replacing Ian Mitchell, who is leaving to join the Scottish Government.

Avila moves from being director at the Kinning Park Complex, starting the role in early August.

He will be tasked with bringing a new vision to the role, helping regenerate the sector and tackle inequality, strengthen communities and improve the performance of businesses following the pandemic.

He is a board member of Scotland's Regeneration Forum (SURF) and treasurer of Community Land Scotland.

Avila said: “Community enterprises have a key role to play in helping create a fairer, greener and healthier Scotland - I look forward to leading the fantastic team at CEIS to ensure we do all we can to help strengthen our communities and build a more inclusive economy that works for all of us.”

CEIS chair Maureen Porch added: “These are changing times for CEIS as Ian leaves us after a long and successful relationship with the group, as a director for nine years and for the last two as group chief executive.

“The board look forward to welcoming Martin to the group and to working with him to deliver impact across the many challenges facing people, businesses and communities across Scotland.”
