A pilot fund that will help community groups make Renfrewshire greener looks set to be launched by the council in the new year.
Elected members will be asked to approve the creation of a £50,000 pot for a new Community Climate Fund at Wednesday's meeting of the Leadership Board.
The fund will provide awards of up to £3,000 to organisations to help them develop local green projects which are tailored to the needs of individual communities.
This could include initiatives that enhance biodiversity, support volunteer activities, or allow events and campaigns to be launched in certain areas.
It forms part of an ambitious effort to make Renfrewshire carbon neutral by 2030.
The £50,000 will be allocated from the £1million Climate Change Action Fund which was launched by the council last year after it declared a climate emergency in 2019.
In papers prepared for the Leadership Board, council bosses said: "The pace and scale of activity which is now being undertaken across the organisation and with partners in relation to climate change is significant, and real progress is being made in co-ordinating this activity and in progressing key local priorities around engaging and consulting with local residents, businesses and partners on Renfrewshire’s response to the climate emergency.

"The purpose of the Community Climate Fund is to support community organisations to develop local projects and initiatives which align with the drive to net-zero and help build resilience within communities from the impacts of climate change.
"Draft guidance has been developed for the fund. Officers will work with all successful applicants to monitor the outcomes delivered by projects and initiatives supported through the fund, as part of a wider evaluation of the local response to the climate emergency in Renfrewshire."
If agreed to by the board, it is anticipated the fund will be launched early next year.
Award recommendations would then be submitted to the Climate Change Sub-Committee for sign-off before a final review by the Leadership Board.
A climate survey was recently put out to the public to gather people's opinions on what needs to be done to reduce emissions and the challenges Renfrewshire faces.
It closed at the end of September and the findings are now being analysed.
