Community champion at Edinburgh Morrisons store in amazing offer to those self-isolating

Most of us would agree that supermarket staff are doing an amazing job in incredibly testing times right now.

Rarely do you see them grumble, despite some of the challenges faced as they try to enforce new rules and restrictions to halt the spread of killer Covid-19.

Their efforts deserve applause – and the selfless generosity of one Edinburgh 'community champion' epitomises the great work they are doing.

Karen, the community champ at the Hunters Tryst Morrisons store, is offering a helping hand to those who are self-isolating, and finding it difficult, in the face of the coronavirus pandemic.

She has been handing out cards asking people if they need any help with either picking up shopping, posting mail and getting urgent supplies. She's even offering to take the time out to make friendly phone calls to help those struggling in isolation.

On the card is written: "Just give me a call or text and I will do what I can to help. Items will be left on your doorstep."

A number of people were keen to express their gratitude on social media.

Toots Brown posted: "Thank you Karen. As an unpaid carer I may well be in touch. Amazing idea. Lovely to know people care."

Janie Campbell added: "What a great idea."

We couldn't agree more.
