Communities affected by deaths of McGinley children in Newcastle, Dublin to be offered psychological support

The communities affected by the deaths of the McGinley children are to be offered psychological support to help them deal with the tragedy.

Conor, 9, Darragh, 7, and Carla, 3, who were found dead in their Newcastle home on Friday, January 24.

Their mother, Deirdre Morley, has been charged with their murder.

An interagency response group consisting of staff from the HSE, Tusla and the Department of Education's National Educational Psychological Service will host a number of drop in sessions at Rathcoole Community Centre.

The sessions are open to all and will be held on the following dates:

  • Thursday morning     6th February             09.00-11.00am           Main Hall
  • Monday evening        10th February            19.00-20.30               John Nolan Room
  • Thursday morning     13th February            09.00-11.00am          Main Hall
  • Monday evening        17th February            19.00-20.30               John Nolan Room
  • Thursday morning     20th February            09.00-11.00am          Main Hall

The agencies have also provided details of a number of helplines available to anyone affected by the tragedy:

ISPCC Children and young people up to the age of 18 can contact a special support line service for free, 24 hours a day, to talk about how they are feeling and about anything which may be on their mind. A support line service will also operate for teachers, parents and carers in the school community, offering the chance to talk through how they can support children in their care during this time. These services may be contacted through the details below:

Barnardo’s Children’s Bereavement Service work with families to help them support their child through the grieving process with specialist bereavement project workers. Barnardo’s Helpline Service - (01) 473 2110 - is available from 10am-12pm Monday to Thursday to members of the community seeking information and support in relation to bereavement. www.barnardos.ie
