'Communion': Is JD Vance preparing 2028 presidential run with release of new book?

US Vice President JD Vance is set to release a new book, titled “Communion: Finding My Way Back To Faith” in June.

The 304-page book, published by HarperCollins, chronicles his personal spiritual journey from Christianity to atheism and his eventual conversion to Catholicism in 2019.

This marks Vance's second book following his popular 2016 memoir, “Hillbilly Elegy”, which was adapted on the big screen in a critically mauled 2020 film directed by Ron Howard, starring Glenn Close and Amy Adams.

“The story of how I regained my faith, of course, only happened because I had lost it to begin with,” Vance, 41, said in a statement.

“The interesting question that hangs over this book, and over my mind, is why I ever strayed from the path. Why the Christian faith of my youth failed to properly take root,” he wrote.

The book announcement intensifies criticism that JD Vance surely has better things to do, as he is the first US Vice President in recent times to publish a book while in office.

Vance, who previously criticized US involvement in “endless wars” in the Middle East, has come under fire for his conspicuous silence amid the ongoing war in Iran. Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene publicly questioned Vance’s absence from the debate last month, asking: “Where the hell JD Vance?”

Prepping his book release, apparently.

The upcoming book also ramps up speculation regarding Vance's potential presidential candidacy in 2028 – as a book release is a predictable move for political figures before launching a campaign.

And who knows - “Communion” may even be selected to make it into Donald Trump’s Presidential Library?

"Communion: Finding My Way Back To Faith" comes out on 16 June.
