Communication among team leadership indicates progress for Miami

The new regime here in Miami is still in the infancy stages — there are so many trials and tribulations yet to come. Regardless, seeing some of the philosophical changes that have been implemented should be cause for optimism. Maybe not in the on-field product in 2019, but overall. The direction of the franchise is going to be tied to the relationships of those at the forefront. Can general manager Chris Grier and head coach Brian Flores sustain a healthy relationship?

Again, it is early. But so far so good.

“Chris (Grier) and I are in constant communication whether it’s on the phone, whether he’s in my office, I’m in his office,” said head coach Brian Flores when asked about the level of input he has with Grier. “We’re in constant communication about players, the draft, free agency, AAF players. He and I have a really good relationship. We’re aligned in a lot of different things we’re looking for in players.”

Good. The Dolphins need harmony and a universal direction if they’re going to shake out of the shackles of mediocrity and become a constant competitor.

But Miami hasn’t checked the box, at least not yet. It is easy to have nothing but sunshine and rainbows when you haven’t lost a game. How will this group react if they go, say, 3-13? Is that healthy relationship just as strong?

If Grier and Flores can stay in step through adversity, then we’ll know Miami has changed their front office culture and dynamics for the better — even if the team doesn’t win at first.
