Commonwealth Games expands legacy team and more appointments news

The organisers of the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham have appointed five new members to its legacy committee which was set up to ensure the city, region and country maximises the benefits of hosting the sporting spectacle.

The committee is tasked with establishing a legacy strategy and overseeing the delivery of a programme of benefits covering areas such as tourism, trade and investment, jobs and skills, education, sustainability and culture.

The quintet of new appointments are Fleur Sexton, managing director and co-founder of training company PET-Xi, Nicola Ibbetson, chief commercial officer at Aston Villa FC and Anisa Morridadi, founder and chief executive of Beatfreeks Collectives in Birmingham which offers consultancy and other services related to the arts.

Joining them are Casey Bailey, assistant head teacher of Windsor Academy Trust and city poet, and accessibility specialist Sarah Rennie.

Committee chairman John Crabtree said: "We're pleased to have added five people who bring very different knowledge and experience but all share a passion for ensuring Birmingham and the West Midlands maximise the opportunities that hosting a globally significant event like the Commonwealth Games brings.

"I've been very impressed with the enthusiasm they have all already demonstrated and we feel lucky we have been able to attract such talented individuals."

The chairman and chief executive of Birmingham bike manufacturer Tandem Group are stepping down from their roles.

Mervyn Keene will retire as non-executive chairman and director at the end of July.

And after 30 years with the business, chief executive Steve Grant has informed the board of his intention to step down from his post in order to become the new chairman.

Jim Shears, currently group finance director, will take up the position of chief executive at the same time and also joint managing director of Tandem Group’s subsidiary MV Sports & Leisure.

Law firm Shakespeare Martineau has promoted Emma Bryant to associate partner in the corporate team in its Birmingham office.

She advises on complex transactions, mergers and acquisitions for a number of national and international clients.

The chairman of Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership will stand down when his current term of office ends this spring.

Jonathan Browning, who joined the organisation in 2014, will be handing over the reins in April.

He will also be relinquishing his roles as chair of the LEP's programme delivery board, as a member of the West Midlands Combined Authority board and chairmam of the authority's strategic economic development board.

Staffordshire PR agency Stone Junction has recruited experienced consultant Maggie Morrissey.

She brings more than 20 years of experience in the industry to the role including spells with national children’s disability charity Newlife and running her own agency.

Godwin Capital, the fundraising and investment arm of Godwin Developments, has appointed Helen Luc as its new financial controller.

She is a chartered accountant and has more than four years of finance experience including a spell with BDO.
