India’s Commonwealth Games 2026 schedule for July 23 will feature two lawn bowls matches, marking the opening events for the Indian contingent at the Glasgow edition.
The two fixtures will take place before the official start of the Games, with the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony scheduled later in the day. Olympic medallists Mirabai Chanu and Lovlina Borgohain will represent India at the ceremony as the flag bearer and baton bearer, respectively.
Putul Sonowal Faces Tough Bowls Challenge
In the men’s singles bowls event, India’s Putul Sonowal will begin his campaign against Canada’s Ryan Bester at the Scottish Event Campus (SEC). Sonowal, currently ranked 21st in the world, will face a challenging opponent in Bester.
Women’s Pairs Team Begins Campaign
Earlier on Thursday, India’s women’s pairs team featuring Pinki Singh (skip) and Rupa Rani Tirkey (lead) will start their sectional-play campaign against Malta’s Connie Rixon and Rebecca Rixon.
