Common household item that could help you sleep in the heat

As the temperatures rise, sleeping can feel almost impossible as many people find themselves tossing and turning.

Several warnings have been issued about using a fan to get to sleep with alternative advice issued such as putting pillow covers in the freezer. But there is one unusual item that could help you sleep, without any fuss or bother.

A hot water bottle is usually associated with keeping warm in the winter, but it also has its uses during these hot nights. According to the Mirror, sleep experts at French Bedroom said instead of filling the bottle with hot water, use ice cold water instead.

This can help lower your body temperature and cool your sheets, helping you fall asleep faster. Ice cubes in cold water is the best way to do this.

The Hot Water Bottle Shop has also recommended this hack as the ice cold water will eventually warm up until it reaches room temperature.

But other top tips for wanting to sleep could include changing your winter duvet to a lower tog and use thin cotton sheets. For your pillow, it is recommended to use a firm pillow rather than a fluffy one.

Another useful hack, according to the Mirror, saw replicating air conditioning without paying for it to be fitted in your home. Simply pop ice cubes in a small pan and place in front of your fan. The cold air will circulate in no time.
