Committal hearing for women accused over cop death

Two women accused of murder over the death of a Queensland police officer in an alleged hit-and-run are set to face a committal hearing next year.

Senior Constable David Masters died after being struck by a suspected stolen car on the Bruce Highway at Burpengary, north of Brisbane, about 3am on June 26, 2021.

Skye Anne Wallis and Kari O'Brien were arrested on murder charges within days of Sen Const Masters' death.

Issues to be discussed at a directions hearing were resolved by consent, the Brisbane Magistrates Court was told on Tuesday.

Wallis, 36, and 27-year-old O'Brien are scheduled to face a committal hearing, estimated to last five days, from May 27 in the same court.

Police said at the time of their arrests it would be alleged Wallis was the driver of the car that struck 53-year-old Sen Const Masters.

O'Brien was allegedly a passenger in the vehicle.

The car was later found burnt out in semi-rural Moodlu, about 17km from where Sen Const Masters died.

The women were both charged with one count each of murder, arson and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

Wallis was also charged with unlawful possession of a weapon at the time of her arrest.

Her lawyer earlier said outside court that charge was due to her unintentionally carrying a weapon when she handed herself into the station.

Police said it would be alleged officers found an electronic anti-personnel device during a search of Wallis's bag.
