After the death of Kobe Bryant, NBA commissioner Adam Silver consulted with Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Chris Paul on how to proceed, according to the Oklahoman.
Paul is the president of the NBA Players’ Association and was a longtime friend of Bryant, who died Jan. 26 in a helicopter crash.
On the day Bryant died, Silver and Paul spoke about whether or not the games scheduled over the upcoming days should be played.
“We both agreed that, if anything, (there was) a sense that the people wanted to come together and be with each other,” Silver told the Oklahoman.
Only one game was altered: the Los Angeles Lakers vs. Clippers game originally scheduled for Jan. 28 was postponed.
The rest of the games were played, though several players, including Paul, missed at least one game as they mourned Bryant.
Paul and Bryant had grown close and played together on two gold medal-winning Olympic basketball teams.
Paul posted a tribute to Instagram following Bryant’s death.
