Commercial property giant recruits new director from rival

A property expert who has worked on some of the biggest deals in the sector in Scotland in recent years has switched firms.

Calum Cowe joins JLL as a director in its growing Scottish investment team after spending over eight years at Cushman & Wakefield where he joined as a graduate and worked his way up to partner. He is the latest key hire made by JLL’s Scottish investment team following the appointment of Andrew Shiells from Lambert Smith Hampton.

Edinburgh-based Cowe will work on the acquisition and disposal of commercial property and investment opportunities throughout Scotland. JLL, which employs around 120 staff in Scotland, said he brings “significant investment experience working with a range of national and international clients”.

Deals he has been involved in include the sale of Exchange Place 1, 2 & 3 for the Scottish Widows Life Fund and Saltire Court for ADIA. He also led the purchase of Stock Exchange House in Glasgow for £33 million for AEW last year in Glasgow, as well as the forward funding of the Premier Inn hotel, St Enoch Square for £31 million in 2018.

Alasdair Humphery, lead director for JLL in Scotland, said: “Calum’s appointment is an important one for our business in Scotland and brings our investment team to the right size and shape to compete in the market during 2020 and beyond. Calum is an experienced consultant who is used to helping clients achieve their ambitions. In our two new investment recruits we have an energetic duo offering complementary skills and specialisms that will fit well with our existing team.”

Cushman & Wakefield’s Scottish chair David Davidson thanked Cowe for his contribution to the firm. Davidson said: “Calum’s time with us is testament to rapid career progression possible at Cushman & Wakefield. This is a one-off opportunity for Calum, so we wish him every success and will hopefully be doing deals with him soon.”
