Commercial flight intercepted by two MiG 29s after 'pilot wasn't answering'

A commercial flight was intercepted by two MiG-29 fighters because the pilot did not respond to air traffic controllers, according to a report .

The Italian Airbus A320 plane was flying between Milan, Italy, and Kharkiv, Ukraine, when it was intercepted by the jets.

The MiGs returned to base after the Airbus made contact with air traffic controllers, Air Live reports.

The Soviet Union era fighters, which took off from Sliač Air Base, Slovakia, were heard breaking the speed of sound above the Slovakian town of Rožňava.

Flight Radar reports that an Ernest Airlines service from Milan to Kharkiv on June 23 was supposed to take off at 10am (Coordinated Universal Time), however the departure time was delayed until 8.13pm.

The A320 was reportedly due to land at 2.20pm, however it actually touched down much later at 11.57pm.
