Commercial developer proposes hundreds of new homes at former quarry site

Hundreds of new homes could be built on a brownfield site in Scunthorpe as a commercial property developer looks to open up a former quarry site.

Onward Holdings Ltd is proposing a multi-million pound building project on the 22-acre plot off the town’s Glebe Road.

The central location offers several access points, having been surrounded by trade and retail developments, including an Aldi.

A planning application is imminent, and should it be accepted by North Lincolnshire Council, Onward – a significant developer of land and property in the town – would look to appoint a housebuilder.

A vision for Glebe Road? (A vision for Glebe Road?)

Neil Storey, director of Onward Holdings, said: “On a national scale there is a recognised shortage of housing. When submitted and if approved by North Lincolnshire Council it will lead to much-needed new homes for the region. We’ll be looking for expressions of interest from housebuilders when we can progress a planning application to move the project forward and create an economic buzz for the area.”

Onward owns neighbouring Glebe Park, a retail development which is occupied by a variety of national retailers including Bathstore, Farmfoods and Johnstone’s Decorating Centre. It also has long term tenants in properties on Warren Road and Normanby Road.

Mr Storey said providing reclaimed land for housing is in keeping with Onward Holdings’ philosophy of reducing, where possible, the environmental impact of development.

It has turned a former coal mine at Wath-upon-Dearne near Barnsley into the successful Onyx Retail Park.

Andrew Miller Chartered Surveyors of Sheffield is acting for Onward.
