GIFU -- A pottery firm in Toki, Gifu Prefecture, has begun producing yunomi teacups adorned with a drawing of Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga.

Pottery maker Yamashi Seitosho has been making teacups featuring Japanese prime ministers since 1976, with the latest depiction of Suga appearing as the 64th prime minister.

Besides teacups with the faces of new and past prime ministers, the firm created teacups featuring Suga holding a shikishi card bearing the new era name Reiwa.

About 10,000 orders have already been placed by souvenir shops among others.

The firm's managing director, who has just taken over the drawing of the portraits from his father, said: "Mr. Suga's features are the wrinkles at the corners of his eyes and his smile lines. It was surprisingly easy to draw his face."
