Commanders safety Kam Curl dealing with a thumb injury

When the Washington Commanders were on the practice field Wednesday, one of their top defenders was missing. Third-year safety Kam Curl was sidelined with an apparent arm injury, as his right arm was in a sling.

After practice, reporters asked Washington head coach Ron Rivera for an update on Curl.

“No, we don’t have to give you the injury report until next Wednesday, so we’ll stay away from all that,” Rivera said.

On Thursday, Ben Standig of The Athletic revealed Curl was dealing with a thumb injury that may have required surgery. With Rivera refusing to discuss Curl’s injury, everyone must wait until next week for an update on the young safety.

If Curl were to miss any time, second-year safety Darrick Forrest would move into the starting lineup. Forrest had a terrific summer and is expected to see time at the Buffalo nickel position in 2022.
