Ahead of Coming-of-Age Day, an adulthood ceremony was held Sunday at the Suzuka Circuit motorsport track in Suzuka, Mie Prefecture. The number of people turning 20 in the city during the current academic year is 2,257, and about 1,700 people participated.

This event has been held at the Suzuka Civic Center every year. However, as a countermeasure against the novel coronavirus, the grandstand at the International Racing Course was chosen for this year's venue, because it is easier to avoid the so-called Three Cs -- closed spaces, crowded places and close-contact settings.

The organizer provided cold-proof sheets for the outdoor seats for the participants' comfort.

On the race track, a motorcycle team in charge of disaster management fascinated attendees with a thrilling demonstration of their skills.

A male participant said: "What a memorable ceremony! An event like this is exclusive for our generation."
