Comet Neowise in Edinburgh: Stunned locals snap pictures as rare comet shoots through the sky

Stargazers in Edinburgh couldn't believe their luck last night as rare comet Neowise shot across the capital's skyline.

The incredible comet came just 103 million kilometres away from the earth after travelling for a whopping 6,800 years through space.

Last night, crystal clear conditions in the capital meant that many excited locals were able to snap a picture of the comet as it streaked through Edinburgh and the Lothians.

(Graham Gaw)

Edinburgh locals stayed awake to catch a glimpse of the comet with one local taking a picture of it shooting across Blackford Hill at around 1.50 am in the morning.
