'Comedy gold' TripAdvisor review left by bemused guest at 'famous hotel'

A bemused hotel guest posted an hilarious online review in which they claimed to have seen "drunk people" sleeping on the stairs of the historic Edwardian style building.

The guest at Liverpool's landmark Adelphi hotel said that they had to navigate "people sleeping on the stairs" and "canisters of laughing gas" on their way down to breakfast.

They also offered some praise for the famous hotel, stating that the room had an 'old grandeur' and saying the noise was 'ok', Liverpool Echo reports.

The review posted on TripAdvisor read: "If you like having breakfast with wedding guests who haven’t gone to bed then this is the place for you.

The hotel was built in 1914 (Liverpool Echo)

"Room clean and clearly old grandeur. The noise was ok. Best bit is stepping out of your room for breakfast avoiding the laughing gas canisters and the drunks on the stairs who you have to step over."

The guest posted photographs which showed a man asleep on a staircase which appeared to be inside the famous hotel. There was also a photograph of a canister of what appeared to be nitrous oxide, which is known as laughing gas.

The review titled 'comedy gold' was posted two days ago according to TripAdvisor.

Earlier this month a guest said she had woken up in a "grotty" room which was "falling apart" and the carpets were covered in "thick muck".

She took several photos of the room, which show the sink's tap handle in her hand after it was disconnected from the faucet itself.

Another image shows deep cracks scarring the wall around a fuse box.

According to the Echo, there were additional images showing a large stain on a shower curtain, visible gaps near bathroom furniture and peeling doors.

Built in 1914, the Adelphi is a famous landmark that was once associated with luxury but has been associated with customer complaints over recent years.

It has welcomed guests including Bob Dylan and Frank Sinatra.

The hotel recently submitted an application to sell alcohol to guests 24 hours a day.
