Comedy Couple Ali Wong & Bill Hader Split After 2 Years Together: ‘It Was Too Difficult’

Ali Wong and Bill Hader

If Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban finalising their divorce yesterday (and revealing their staggering monthly earnings) wasn’t enough to convince you love is dead, Ali Wong and Bill Hader have now confirmed they are officially dunzo.

More than two years after hard-launching their romance in April 2023, the Beef queen, 43, and the former SNL funny guy, 47, have quietly gone their separate ways. Reps for both stars stayed tight-lipped when PEOPLE came knocking, because of course they did.

A source says the split came down to the ultimate celeb relationship killer: chaotic schedules, nonstop work, and the logistical nightmare of blending busy lives with family commitments. Turns out even comedy royalty can’t out-calendar Google.

“It was too difficult to make the relationship work with Ali’s upcoming stand up tour and Bill’s various film and tv projects this year,” the insider claimed.

Going forward, they plan to “focus on their work and kids, while continuing to support and root for each other”.

Despite the end of their relationship, things remain “very amicable” for Hader and Wong, the source says: “They are very much friends and still in touch.”

The breakup buzz has been brewing for a while — and fans definitely clocked it.

Speculation kicked off early last year when Wong skipped the red carpet with Hader and didn’t mention him during her 2025 Golden Globes acceptance speech in January. The snub didn’t go unnoticed, especially after Wong beat out Jamie Foxx, Nikki Glaser, Seth Meyers, Adam Sandler and Ramy Youssef to snag Best Performance in Stand-Up Comedy on Television for her Netflix special Single Lady.

At the time, damage control was swift: Hader’s rep told PEOPLE the couple was still solid and that he’d missed the ceremony due to a health issue. Crisis (temporarily) averted.

Before that, things looked very much on. The pair were snapped together at the premiere of Peacock’s Laid in December 2024 and made a loved-up appearance at the 2024 Golden Globes earlier that year. Wong even scored a win for Beef, earning a celebratory kiss from Hader before heading on stage.

Their love story officially rebooted in April 2023, when Wong and Hader rekindled things after a brief fling in late 2022, following Wong’s split from ex-husband Justin Hakuta. Wong and Hakuta finalised their divorce in May 2024.

And in a very full-circle moment, Wong spilled some of the tea herself in her October 2024 Netflix special Ali Wong: Single Lady. She revealed Hader slid into her life right as her marriage was ending — getting her number from a mutual friend and texting that he’d had a crush on her “forever”. Bold. Romantic. Extremely rom-com coded.

Sadly, this chapter didn’t get a happy ending — but at least the lore is elite.
