Comedian sparks 'banana curry' debate asking if it's an 'Edinburgh thing'

Scottish comedian Gary Faulds divided his fanbase yesterday after posting a picture of a curry served with slices of banana.

Gary kickstarted a conversation with his fans over on his Facebook page asking what they thought of the unusual combination, admitting that he'd tried it and found it 'weirdly nice'.

In the post, accompanied by the picture of the dish, the comedian wrote: "Edinburgh People Own Up! Who has banana with their curry?

"My old boss man at I-electrical took me to his mum's for my dinner the last time I worked there and we got this.

"He’s just sent me a picture of this tonight. I honestly felt like they where winding me up. But it was weirdly nice. Do you do this?"

In response to him asking if it was an 'Edinburgh thing, many said they were from the capital and had never heard of it before.

And over 1000 people waded in on the debate in the comments, sharing their opinions on the sweet and savoury combo.

One Facebook user tagged Police Scotland's page and wrote: "Police Scotland. I’d like tae report a crime."

While another added: "That looks absolutely rotten."

But some agreed with the sweet and savoury combination.

One wrote: "My mum always used to give us curry with banana when I was wee and it was nice, took the heat away."

Another added: "My dad always served his home made curry with sliced banana, walnuts and mango chutney. Delish!"
