Comedian Sean Lock made his final TV appearance in an episode of 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown just six months before his death.
The telly star has passed away aged 58 following a battle with cancer and the sad news was revealed today.
He had been off-air for most of this year, and made his last appearance onscreen in February 2021.
He was seen in the show alongside his longtime TV co-star Jimmy Carr with Countdown's Susie Dent and Rachel Riley, who was Dictionary Corner guest.
Jon Richardson and Sara Pascoe teamed up to battle Sean and Richard Ayoade.
Jimmy introduced him by saying: "Sean Lock has taken to Countdown like a duck to snooker".
The host then asked Sean if he has any "celebrity beefs" and the comedian replied: "Loads... Paloma faith, all I said was she had a s**t hat and she's pound shop Bjork...
"Yoko Ono, come on woman you're talented, we want another album now get out there and do it."
Sean previously appeared several episodes of the series as well as a special Christmas edition of 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown which aired in December but is though to have been filmed several months earlier.
Jimmy introduced Sean to the show saying: "If you've ever wondered what it would be like if the Grinch had a baby with Scrooge, here he is!"
The camera then panned to Sean smiling at the camera.
Sean's death was confirmed today in a statement from his agents, who revealed the star passed away at home surrounded by his loved ones.
A statement from his agent Off The Kerb Productions said: “It is with great sadness that we have to announce the death of Sean Lock.
“He died at home from cancer, surrounded by his family.
“Sean was one of Britain’s finest comedians, his boundless creativity, lightning wit and the absurdist brilliance of his work, marked him out as a unique voice in British comedy.
“Sean was also a cherished husband and father to three children. Sean will be sorely missed by all that knew him.
“We kindly request that the privacy of his family and children is respected at this difficult time.”
Sean was best known for his role as a team captain on Jimmy Carr’s Channel 4 comedy panel show 8 Out Of 10 Cats and its spin-off 8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown.
He also wrote and starred in the popular BBC sitcom 15 Storeys High.
Tributes have since poured in from his famous friends and fans, including his longtime panel show rival Jon, who wrote: "I idolised Sean as a comic long before I became a comedian myself and ten years working alongside him didn’t diminish that in the least.
"An incredible comic brain and a truly unique voice. I’m devastated for his family today and sad for comedy that we have lost one of the very best.
"Undisputed, undefeated carrot in a box champion. I will miss him."
