Comedian Russell Kane says 'thoughts with victim' of shooting at his house

Comedian Russell Kane has responded to a shooting at a home he owns in London last night - saying his thoughts are with the victim.

A man in his 40s is fighting for his life after the attack in Woodford Green, North East London, shortly after 11pm last night.

Mr Kane rents the £780,000 home to tenants.

Neighbours say they heard six shots ring out, and believe the victim may have been struck in the throat.

A spokesman for the comic said: "Russell's thoughts are with the victim and his family at this terrible time.

"No further comments will be made whilst the incident is being investigated by the police."

A neighbour told the Ilford Recorder : "We thought he was going to die.

"It didn't look good. They were here in the ambulance for a good hour - things took a nasty turn."

The resident, who has lived in the street for 20 years, said: "A guy had gone around the back, shot through the windows at the back - it's like a conservatory, like six times and caught him in the throat."

The man - who did not want to be named for fear of reprisals - said Mr Kane had moved out several years ago.

He said: "I did his garden and they had a child a few years ago so they moved up north and they rented the house out to these guys.

"Everyone is in shock.

"Things like this don't happen around here. Luckily no one was caught in the crossfire, particularly as [the tenant's] partner was in the house."

Another resident on the road added: "I've known this area my whole life and this doesn't happen around here.

"A shooting is very unusual."

Describing the shooting incident, a Met Police spokeswoman said: "Police were called to Malvern Drive, Woodford Green, IG8 at 23:10hrs on Thursday, 11 July following reports of a shooting.

"Officers, armed police and London Ambulance Service attended and found a man in his forties suffering from gunshot injuries. He has been taken to a central London hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

"No arrests have been made. Enquiries continue."
