Comedian Katherine Ryan divides fan with list of 'unacceptable' British foods

Comedian Katherine Ryan has revealed her list of 'unacceptable' British foods, including bread sauce, chutney, and Yorkshire puddings.

Speaking at the TV Choice Awards, the Canadian comedian who now lives in the UK spoke about overrated British Christmas foods that she finds 'unacceptable'. Most things Brits would consider staples of a Sunday roast like Yorkshire puddings made her list of foods she dislikes.

Katherine is best known for her role in her TV show The Duchess, starring in Romantic Getaway with fellow comedian Romesh Ranganathan, and appearing on various British comedy panel shows like Mock the Week. She has also performed stand-up comedy shows at Live at the Apollo and across the UK.

In the video, she said: "You have lots of overrated Christmas food, and you have a lot of unacceptable food, like bread sauce. Unacceptable.

"All the chutneys, straight in the bin. I don't eat Yorkshire pudding, I don't know if that's Christmas, but I don't like it, I don't eat bread. I have warmed, however, to pigs in blankets, even though I was vegetarian for a long time but I have a husband now and he insists on eating animals.

"And then I love sprouts and I love cabbage, and I put like chestnuts in it. And you guys are missing out on pumpkin pie, but otherwise everything's good."

Her comments caused some controversy. One person said: "Yorkshire puddings are incredible though!!!" and another said: "Who doesn’t like Yorkshire puddings?!" while a third said: "Chutneys. Are you joking. They're the best.".

However, others agreed about bread sauce, as one person said: "Have never understood bread sauce either, I don’t know what the intention with it was originally, but seems like it would be a good substitute for wallpaper paste.".
